Eating Healthy...For a Day with Food Matters NYC

Being a Brunch Boy is very difficult when you are trying to be healthy; as much as I try and work out, sometimes you need to take a break from over indulgence, and thanks to Food Matters NYC * I was able to eat healthy....for one day atleast.

Food Matters NYC is a healthy food delivery service, which is customized to your health goals, taste preferences, and eating patterns in mind. I mentioned to them that I work out a lot and was looking for some delicious food to supplement those work outs. I was pretty surprised by the options given to me for the day, since most of the meals (which are broken up into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snack) were some of my favorite foods, just with healthier preparations and smaller portions.

Post my morning workout I dug into meal one which was Cashew Sweet Potato Waffles with berries. We were off to a good start; Waffles were perfect for this Brunch Boy, and sweet potato is one of my favorite things to eat. I was told this was perfect for a post workout mea because the Waffles were packed with healthy fats, carbs and proteins.

For lunch my meal was Roasted Black King Fish with Citrus Salsa which is a great source of Omega3s, and the fermented slaw promotes good gut health. Not sure exactly what that means, but with the amount of food I usually consume, it must be a good thing! Best of all, it was really fresh and delicious!

In the afternoon I decided to get into the snack which is a Grain Free Cider Donut that is made with farm eggs, flax, almond meal and a touch of maple and apple sauce. A little bit of sweetness is always good to get me through the afternoon, and at only 70 calories per donut, I didn't have to feel bad about it.

For dinner I had the Chicken Jalapeno Fries with Turmeric Aioli, Sautéed Greens, and Roasted Sweet Potatoes. Again, some of my favorite foods! You might not think of chicken fingers as being healthy, but since they were coated with quinoa flakes, they were definitely a healthier and more nutrishish option than the chicken fingers I usually order from my neighborhood bodega.

It would definitely take more than one day of eating healthy to truly make a difference, but after one day on Food Matters I definitely felt good about getting through the day with only healthy foods! Most of all, I didn't feel like I was sacrificing any kind of flavor with the options that were given to me.

*Food Matters NYC provided me with a days worth of meals in exchange for this blog post.
