4 Must Eat Cheesesteaks in New York City?!

I’ve gone on and on about how much I love the Philly food scene (FULL GUIDE HERE), and of course cheesesteaks are a huge part of that. But do I really need to drive 90 miles to get a great one? To find out, I hit four of the top cheesesteak spots in NYC in search of that same glorious mix of meat, cheese, onions, and bread!
So below is my full guide written out and in video form, watch to see how I ranked all four. And let me know in the comments below if there is a cheesesteaks spot in NYC I missed!
Rocco’s Italian Sausage and Cheesesteaks- Hidden in the Home Deport Long Island City parking is Rocco’s Italian Sausage and Cheesesteaks! This is the no frills kind of shop that defined cheesesteaks in Philly for generations. Nothing fancy here, just a 12 inch Italian hero loaded up with steak, melted white American cheese, grilled onion, and the option of grilled peppers too, which I ordered after they really suggested I do. And they were right, that little sweetness and heat really added to the bite! I was also told my customers in the parking lot, that next time I should do their combo and add sausage to it too! $16.49

Fedoroff’s Roast Pork- Fedoroff’s in Williamsburg is a South Philly inspired sandwich shop with a roast pork, an Italian combo, and of course a cheesesteak! You can go small, medium, or large, all sticking very close to the traditional cheesesteak with usda sliced prime beef loaded up with sweet onions, drowned in their cheese whiz, and piled into an Italian hoagie from Parisi bakery. This was definitely the most gooey one of the day! $24.95 (large)

Mama’s Too- There is a line everyday at their UWS and West Village locations with people waiting for some of the best pizza in the city, but don’t sleep on their sandwiches, and definitely don’t sleep on their cheesesteak! Limited availability, so get there early, but theirs comes with finely chopped shaved ribeye on this really crusty on the outside, and seeded semolina hero, big sweet onions, and this silky made in house white cheddar cheese sauce, their own take on whiz, which is really peppery too! To me, this was the best bread of the day! $23

Danny & Coop’s- Angelo’s is my favorite cheesesteak in Philly, and along with Bradley Cooper, they opened Danny & Coop’s last year! Expect a line, but it moves quickly as this is the only thing on the menu! This is a massive 12 inch cheesesteak on their house baked bread with thinly sliced rib eye, cooper sharp cheese, and of course onions. You can add hot or sweet peppers on the side if you want as well. This is the classic cheesesteak, just elevated enough to make it near perfection! Cooper sharp is incredible, and I love the toasted sesame flavor you get from how loaded up the roll is. $22.50
