I have been making videos on the internet for over 15 years and have been doing it fulltime for almost a decade! Watching the industry evolve and seeing fresh talent emerge never gets old. That's why I started this series "The Next Course,” an interview series to spotlight rising creators who are making waves in the community.

But here's the best part: I want your input! Every creator I feature will come straight from your suggestions. So, let me know in the comments who you think deserves the spotlight next, and keep an eye on my IG stories where I’ll be crowdsourcing ideas there too. I can't wait to discover the next generation of creators with you! This time we are getting to know Sophia Popovits aka @sophiagetshungry

Sophia Popovits aka @sophiagetshungry

Name: Sophia Popovits

Handle: @sophiagetshungry

Location: NYC (with aspirations to wander all over)

Occupation: NY Facilities and Culture Manager for a Music Company by Day, Content Creator by Night/Weekends/Anytime I’m free

How would you describe your content?

Think Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods if it were guest hosted by the unofficial lovechild of Fran Dresher and Jim Carrey – In my content, I explore off beat dishes and unique dining experiences with some cheeky humor and goofy mannerisms. Also lately, I’ve been leaning into a thrill-seekers palate—pushing my boundaries and inviting my audience to take the leap with me (so stay tuned for that)

Why do you make food content?

I am a former actor, so I’ve always missed performing and hosting, and I love food, so this is the perfect marriage of my loves.

I’m also that friend everyone comes to for restaurant recs (partially due to my hospitality background, but also because the Infatuation, Eater, Thrillist and Time Out are my bibles).

What’s the piece of content you are most proud of?

My most recent video featuring the talented Deanna Director, Billy Hiller and Dara Pollak about an unhinged pop up between Medieval Times and The Cable Guy – this video was months in the making. We all created content with our own personal touches, and I am super proud and excited about all of them.

What’s the piece of content that has performed the best?

The video where I went to the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas and got spanked – It does so well on all platforms, that I wonder if I may be in the wrong niche haha…Just kidding! But it definitely has set me on a path to find off beat dining experiences that intrigue me!

What camera do you use?

My iPhone 16 Pro Max is my trusted camera buddy!

What's a type of cuisine you haven't explored that much of, and want to dig deeper into?

I would say Peruvian and Philippine cuisines, but more so I can try specific delicacies within those cuisines, like Cuy (Guinea Pig from Peru) and Balut (Fermented Egg from the Philippines)

What social media platform do you like the most?

Instagram is super fun for me, but I am looking to build more of a presence in YouTube land.

Why do you post online?

At heart, I’m an entertainer. Posting online gives me the chance to express myself and be my own director/producer. I love putting myself out there, not just to share food and experiences, but to challenge my perfectionistic brain that always wants everything to look polished.

What do you want out of this?

One of my biggest dreams is to host my own food and travel show—but I’m also loving the ride, seeing where this path takes me and the awesome people I get to meet along the way. Ultimately, I would be happy to build a life centered on food, travel, and pushing my palate through different traditions and cultures—and creating content feels like the most exciting way to live out that passion.

Why do you think people follow you?

I would like to think that I provide a unique, humorous take and that I focus on more off the beaten path that isn’t just the viral options. I have also been told that my facial expressions are just entertaining to watch.

Anything else you want to tell everyone or promote?

Stay tuned all – because there are some exciting videos on the way, including a few cringeworthy (in the best way) thrill-seeking food experiences.

Also - As I mentioned earlier, I’m building out more of a YouTube presence. I already have a series Do You Dare in play with the first episode out. In this series, I introduce a guest to a cuisine they’ve never tried before—we ease in together, then take the plunge with an extreme dish from that cuisine.

I’d love to feature more guests, so if that sounds like any of your readers’ kind of adventure, DM me on IG!

Any questions for me?

What was the moment you knew that Content is what you wanted to do?

I’ve been making videos since high school, so like 20 years ago? I don’t know if that was the moment, but it has certainly always been a passion. WELL before social media existed.

What are the biggest challenges you face on this journey?

The work never ends, you just slowly chip away at it every single day.

Would you ever want to join me in trying some more adventurous delicacies in this city?

Sure!
